¡Buen apetito! Cookery classes in Madrid

Written by Laurence

Wanting to brush up on your kitchen skills? There are a variety of cookery schools in Madrid which cater for foreigners and visitors, offering classes for beginners through to hardcore foodies.  Wanting to impress a date? Or even take someone on a date to something different?  Perhaps your folks are coming over to visit you in Madrid and you realise you should know how to whip up a paella and a sangria by now… take a class at one of these schools!

Gourmet Madrid

cookingIn this traditional Spanish cooking class, you’ll take on a 3-hour challenge in which to learn and create some of Spanish cuisine’s most famous recipes.  The interactive group sessions at Gourmet Madrid are lead by a fantastic teacher and passionate chef Pedro, and you’ll learn specialities such as paella, gazpacho, and Spanish omelette (tortilla de patatas).  Classes take place within the Torrijos Market, so you can be sure that all ingredients are fresh!  Enjoy the fruits of your labour with a nice glass of wine, and take home the recipes to perfect and recreate for your friends.  (General Díaz Porlier 8, Madrid)

Vintage Spain

Vintage Spain offers a variety of cooking classes which can be adapted to suit any need.  Public group classes, private groups for parties, or even private couples classes in the home of the chef are catered for.  A typical class lasts three hours, including dining time, for which your chef will show you how to match the perfect wine with your creation.  There are vegetarian and vegan options available upon request, and huge menus from which to choose.  (Various locations throughout Madrid)

Cooking Point

Cooking Point is a funky and friendly school, offering group and private classes to those wishing to learn the basics of Spanish cooking.  Classes are held entirely in English, but Spanish traditions and cooking secrets are fiercely upheld!  A winner of TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2015, this is a really popular option for visitors to Madrid.  Select from various classes  such as paella class, Spanish wine-tasting class, and a class devoted to the art of tapas.   (Calle de Moratin, 11 28014)

A punto cooking and tasting school

cookingThese classes are probably not for the newly arrived in Madrid, as they are held in Spanish. But hey – it could be a great way to pick up some of the lingo! Check out the website of A punto for their variety of classes, including specialised seasonal menus, drinks making classes, desserts classes, seafood classes, rice dishes, cookery for children, and pretty much anything you can think of! There are also series of weekly classes for hardcore cookery fans who want to hone their skills over time.  (Hortaleza 64, 28004 Madrid)
