Our first suggestion is Living in London, an English teahouse in Madrid. This place is excellent if you are fed up with the olives and cañas and are in need of some English-style comfort. Living in London is an authentic-looking, English, Victorian style tearoom in Madrid. It is the perfect place for a gossip with your best friend or to have a delicious cake with your new love interest. It tends to be more popular with females than males, but don’t be put off by the feminine scene if you really fancy a good cuppa. The tearoom is cute and cosy and its very well decorated in lilac and green and the place has a lovely wooden floor. There is a bar with seating plus several tables for 2 or 4 people. It isn’t the place to bring a large group though as there simply isn’t the space. Next door they also have a great gift shop owned by the same place. If you are looking for a posh high tea in style, we recommend the Ritz Hotel MadridBetween 4 and 8 pm they serve a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, pastries and English scones, accompanied by jams, clotted cream and a wide variety of teas. The soothing sounds of a pianist, harpist or classical Spanish guitarist will be played in the background and impeccable waiters will serve you till you’re stuffed. Tea is served between 4 – 8pm and the price is  €32 per person.

Travel back a few centuries to the time of Spanish Romanticism, when literary and artistic achievements were abundant and decor was glamorous at the Madrid Museum of Romanticism and stop by their patio for their Romantic Garden TeaThe museum is famed for its collection of art, which includes a work by Goya, among other Spanish masterpieces. While a walk through the Museum if Romanticism itself is alone worth the visit, the best way to finish your tour is most definitely with a stop at the patio and cafe; essentially a secret garden amidst the busy city-centre streets. There, in the outdoor courtyard surrounded by museum walls, you can enjoy the quiet of a trickling fountain while enjoying a lovely cup of tea.

Lastly, we recommend El Jardin Secreto, a spot located near the Plaza España. This is a great place to go on a romantic date or maybe for a coffee with cake or sweets, which are their specialty. You can enjoy their amazing interior with waterfalls on the walls, original lamps, beaded curtains, wooden furniture, giant stuffed animals, big trains made with logs and inspirational messages.
