With excellent connections to <strong>Sol<\/strong> and the neighbouring <strong>affluent<\/strong> suburbs, you will find a mix of both tourists and locals alike. A whole afternoon can easily be spent here due to its <strong>splendour<\/strong> and sheer size. The actual river itself may disappoint but the extensive <strong>trails<\/strong> and beautiful landscaping make it a worthwhile <strong>attraction<\/strong>. Renovated in 2005 the city council didn&#8217;t go lightly on recreational facilities. You will find <strong>football pitches<\/strong>, open aired bars, skate parks among many others. The ambiance is still quite urban and you definitely feel connected to the city which makes for some <strong>pleasant<\/strong> sights, including the home of Atletico Madrid (The Vincent Calderon stadium) and the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mataderomadrid.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"broken_link\">Matadero<\/a>. For <strong>cyclists<\/strong> the main trail of the <strong>park<\/strong> forms a part of the greater Madrid cycle path.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"parque-de-oeste\"><\/span>Parque de Oeste<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"JUSTIFY\">Located around the corner from the <strong>Royal Palace<\/strong> this <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parque_del_Oeste\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">park<\/a> is home to the impressive &#8216;<strong>Templo de Boud<\/strong>&#8216;. Originally constructed in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> century, the temple was gifted to the <strong>Spanish<\/strong> state in 1968 in order to avoid its destruction. The park itself is a great hangout spot and is popular with younger crowds. It is also a <strong>romantics<\/strong> favourite as the westerly direction and higher elevation allow for some <strong>amazing<\/strong> sunsets.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"casa-del-campo\"><\/span>Casa Del Campo<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"JUSTIFY\">Not so much a <strong>park<\/strong> but more an expansive piece of green separating the centre from the <strong>affluent<\/strong> western suburbs. <strong>Casa del Campo<\/strong> unfortunately has earned itself a bit of seedy reputation and is still best avoided at night. That said there is plenty to offer during daylight hours. Whether it&#8217;s mountain <strong>biking<\/strong> or walking, you will not be disappointed. More of an oversized <strong>garden<\/strong> than a park, it is well manicured with perfect lawns, hedges and an abundance <strong>statues<\/strong>. Originally designed to mimic the gardens of <strong>Versailles<\/strong> the park was first conceived during the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century. It might be best to leave your Frisbee at home as this park is better suited for <strong>impressing<\/strong> your visitors with rather than chilling out in.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"parque-lineal-del-manzanares\"><\/span>Parque Lineal Del Manzanares<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"JUSTIFY\">At\u00a0one end of the <strong>Madrid Rio<\/strong> you have the entrance to<strong> Casa del Campo<\/strong> and at the other you have <strong>Parque Lineal del Manzanares.<\/strong> Located deep in the southern suburbs it is a great spot to witness the &#8216;<strong><i>real<\/i><\/strong>&#8216; Madrid. The landscaping is <strong>contemporary<\/strong> but the most unique aspect is the large head <strong>sculpture<\/strong> that towers above the park. It may lack the <strong>splendour<\/strong> of some of its grander neighbours but the higher <strong>elevation<\/strong> allows for some great <strong>views<\/strong> of the city and distant mountains. Expect them to be snow capped in winter.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"parque-juan-carlos-i\"><\/span>Parque Juan Carlos I<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"JUSTIFY\">This <strong>sprawling<\/strong> park can be found in the north-eastern <strong>suburbs<\/strong> not too far away from the <strong>airport<\/strong>. Developed in 1992 it is one of the newbies amongst <strong>Madrid&#8217;s<\/strong> recreational spaces. This huge park is very <strong>popular<\/strong> with locals and families.
