Madrid <\/strong>is composed by a total of 21 districts, one of which is Salamanca.<\/strong> The district divides itself into seven neighborhoods<\/a> called Castellana, Fuente del Berro, Goya, Guindalera, Lista, Parque de las Avenidas and Recoletos.<\/p>\n

Salamanca<\/strong> was created during the nineteenth century, when the city of Madrid<\/strong> experienced a large population growth. King Philip IV of Spain had built a defensive wall during the seventeenth century, which was now making it impossible for the city to grow. In 1860, Queen Isabella II ordered the walls to be torn down, approving the expansion plans for the city.<\/p>\n

\"salamanca<\/a>The new district gained the name of Salamanca<\/strong> due to the involvement of Don Jos\u00e9 de Salamanca y Mayol, Marquis of Salamanca.<\/p>\n

Today, Salamanca<\/strong> is one of the wealthiest and most expensive areas to live in Madrid, with Calle de Serrano ranking as the third most expensive street in all of Spain.<\/p>\n
