The Church of Our Lady of Montserrat has some important works of art, among which include a large canvas from the eighteenth century of the titular Virgin, attributed to the artist Manuel Pereira. The facade of this church is considered to be the most complex and elaborate in the local Baroque style. After the ecclesiastical confiscations of Mendizábal in 1836, the church was converted into a women’s prison and then a dance hall before the Benedictines got it back in 1914.
