The district of Tetuán is one of Madrid’s areas where you can notice big differences, both socially and culturally speaking. While some areas are inhabited by the upper-middle class, other areas have a large immigrant population, and immigrants are usually originally from Latin countries, like Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Peru.

Another percentage of the immigrant population consists of Moroccans and Filipinos. Many of these citizens are second generation immigrants, so this means that young descendants were born on Spanish territory.

The district of Tetuán has a rich variety of shops of great importance to the city, as there are a lot of small, local shops, restaurants, bars and cafeterias, and also leisure options for the youth.

If you are looking to live in a commercial zone that is very well connected to other parts of the capital, then you should consider renting an apartment in Bellas Vistas.

You can also rent an apartment in Cuatro Caminos, an area in the heart of the executive district with important offices. Cuatro Caminos is separated from the neighbourhood of El Viso by the Paseo de la Castellana and in its corner you will find Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

Just as centrally located as the previous neighbourhood, you can opt for renting an apartment in Cuzco-Castillejos. It is in between two metro stops that gave their name to this neighbourhood in the Spanish capital.

In the north of the Tetuán district, you can rent an apartment in Almenara, a distinct, executive neighbourhood with important companies’ headquarters. Almenara also borders more residential areas in Madrid.

If you prefer a more peaceful stay in the capital, you can rent an apartment in Valdeacederas, which is surrounded by the extensive Agustín Rodríguez Sahagun park.

Finally, renting an apartment in Berruguete will be an excellent option for your stay in  Madrid, if you are looking for a predominantly residential zone.

What to see in the district of Tetuán?

The most interesting sights to see in Tetuán are the buildings in this district. Some of them are listed in publications of Madrid’s College of Architects.

Some of these constructions are in a Neo-Mudéjar style, having been applied to some of the popular housing units. They have actually survived by forming colonies of affordable houses and they were built at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Another interesting building is Centro Territorial de Innovación y Formación Madrid Capital (the Territorial Innovation and Training Centre Madrid Capital), which used to be known as the Tetuan Vocational Training Centre. It is located in Calle Limonero, and this is the perfect example of a Deco building, with an interior layout that still reflects both clean and rationalist influences.

It is also worth mentioning that the district of Tetuán has a large number of sculptures, located in different parts of this district in Madrid. They include works by Pablo Serrano, Andreu Alfaro, Vicente Larrea and Eduardo Chillida.

All in all, the district of Tetuán is an area in the capital that is full of contrasts, with extensive shopping areas, excellent connections with other parts of Madrid and great cultural and social variety.
