Taekwondo in Madrid

Written by Laurence

If you’re reading this article, you probably already have some knowledge of, or even experience with Taekwondo in your home country, and are now looking to find classes in Madrid.  Or, perhaps you’ve no idea what Taekwondo actually is, but have always wanted to try the martial arts, and are looking to find out more about it.  A relatively new sport/martial art, Taekwondo was developed in the 1940s in Korea, incorporating the principles of Chinese Karate with ancient Korean traditions.  The basic elements that make Taekwondo different to other martial arts are its emphasis upon kicks, for example, head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques.  Taekwondo is hugely popular as a sport, (it’s even an Olympic sport) and there are many classes in Madrid from which to choose.

Federación Madrileña de Taekwondo

Madrid_Taekwondo _classesThe Madrid Federation of Taekwondo is Madrid’s definitive hub for Taekwondo.  The foundation oversees and regulates local and international Taekwondo for competitive participants, encompassing practice, classes and competitions for beginners to advanced world championship level.  This is the best place to find passionate masters of this martial art, who can advise you on where to find a teacher, how to join a class that suits your needs and goals, and how to get involved in competition should you wish.  (Avenida de Salas de los Infantes, 1, 28034)

Club Taekwondo Vallecas

At Club Taekwondo Vallecas, classes are held every day, beginning with children’s classes in the early evenings, and two different adult levels throughout the later evenings.  Thier website offers a lot of comprehensive information about the sport, it’s origins, and history – although you may wish to brush up on your Spanish before reading.  Drop by for a chat with one of their teachers to determine a suitable class level.  (Calle Alcalá de Guadaira 10, 28067)
