Why rent an apartment in the neighbourhood of Imperial, Madrid?

The neighbourhood of Imperial is one of seven neighbourhoods in the district of Arganzuela. It is famous for what was once the location of one of the most important football stadiums in Spain, named after the late Vicente Calderón and home to Atlético Madrid.

This building is now demolished and homes were built in its place. The football team currently plays at the Wanda Metropolitano, but besides the team’s matches that take place here, it is also a great location for various large events.

Originally Imperial was an industrial neighbourhood, and it is now full of services and well connected.

If you are thinking of renting a home in the district of Arganzuela, and you wish to do so in a comprehensive area, then the neighbourhood of Imperial can be an excellent idea.

The neighbourhood of Imperial is irregularly shaped, and it is located in the north-western part of the district. It is bordered by the Puente de Segovia and Calle de Segovia to the north; the Ronda de Segovia and Calle de Toledo to the east; and the Río Manzanares to the west and south.

It is adjacent to the neighbourhood of Palacio (district of Centro) to the north; Puerta del Ángel and Los Cármenes (district of Latina) to the west; San Isidro (Carabanchel) to the south and Las Acacias (in the same district as Imperial) to the east.

The vanishing of the Vicente Calderón stadium, which had been the neighbourhood’s characteristic element for 50 years, has completely changed the appearance of the whole area. Houses have now been built on the exact location of the stadium, and this has also had an influence on commercial activities, as previously the area had focused mainly on the thousands of fans who came to the stadium every week to watch their team.

As a result, traffic jams on match days and bustling sidewalks with pedestrians on their way to the field have now been replaced by the peace and tranquillity of a residential area.

Despite its peacefulness, the neighbourhood is still in the proximity of the M-30 and Madrid Río. This makes the neighbourhood of Imperial an ideal area for anyone who wants to reside in the district of Arganzuela, who is looking for a part of the city that is well connected by public transport and the M-30, and who enjoys a variety of shopping options. It has all the necessary services and a green zone, Madrid Río, on the banks of the river Manzanares, where you can relax, do some sports or go for a walk.

What to see in the neighbourhood of Imperial, Madrid

One of the most interesting sights to see in the neighbourhood of Imperial is the Puerta de Toledo, which, in ancient times, was one of the gateways to Madrid. It was the last monumental city gate erected in the old walled enclosure of Madrid. The gate was built between 1813 and 1827, and it was restored by the Madrid City Council in 1995.

You may also want to visit Madrid Río, an urban park consisting of a pedestrian and recreational area. It was built on the two banks of the Manzanares River between 2006 and 2012, and it is largely above the underground route of the M-30 ring road.

There is also the Puente de Toledo, built in the Baroque Churrigueresque style between 1718 and 1732 by architect Pedro de Ribera. The bridge connects both banks of the Río Manzanares, linking the roundabout of Pirámides on the east bank with the roundabout of Marqués de Vadillo on the west bank.
