One of its most famous streets is Calle Fuencarral. This important leisure zone in Madrid is full of bars, shops, playgrounds and cinemas, making it an ideal area for families with children.

Calle Fuencarral is also a pedestrian zone every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., so during those hours there is no traffic between the roundabout of Quevedo up until the roundabout of Bilbao.

One of the most remarkable changes in the neighbourhood was the removal of the Mercado de Abastos (market) in the 70's. It was replaced by the attractive Plaza de Olavide, which is now the neighbourhood’s nerve centre. The area is ideal for enjoying some tapas and a few beers, and you can also go shopping in neighbourhood stores.

What to see in the neighbourhood of Trafalgar?

Trafalgar has many interesting sights to see: First of all, its leisure area is worth mentioning, as this is not only a great place to relax, but it also contains some of the best shopping options in the Spanish capital.

Another great sight is Chamberí station. It was formerly part of Metro Line 1, which closed down in 1966, but then it was converted into a museum in 2008. It is now one of the two locations of Madrid Metro Visitor Centre, also known as Andén 0.

The neoclassical Church of Santa Teresa y Santa Isabel is also a typical building in Trafalgar and worth visiting. You can find it at painter Joaquín Sorolla’s roundabout, and the construction of the church was completed in the year 1856.
