Vallehermoso is certainly a residential area, as it has lots of residential buildings and only few high-rise buildings. It does, however, offer a great variety of leisure and commercial options, and it is also very well connected, as it has several metro stations.

One of the sights in this neighbourhood is el Instituto Geográfico Nacional (National Geographic Institute). This is the General Directorate of the Spanish Ministry of Public Works and Undersecretaries and under management of a general director, who is also president of the National Centre for Geographic Information.

This centre not only deals with astronomic observations and research, but also participates in both national and international projects, researches geophysics and seismicity and updates the Spanish National Atlas and other geographic information systems.
