Madrid’s Christmas activities and events

During the Christmas season, the city is full of different coloured lights, and many of its buildings and streets are also illuminated with special lights. It is good to know, though, that all these lights comply with environmental and energy efficiency regulations.

There are lots of reasons for the city to be rightfully proud of this year’s organisation, because, in addition to livening up its streets with lights, it has also taken care of organising many different activities to celebrate this Christmas season. Are you ready to add some of our suggestions to your agenda?

The Circo Price always prepares something special for Christmas, and the idea is to teach children in a fun way about the important things that take place on these days.

The beauty of the theatre’s show, with spectacular technical and visual elements, is unparalleled, and it includes tamers, jugglers, acrobats, musicians and even the presence of a strong man.

The Christmas Lights Tour

Naviluz (a Christmas bus) will be showing you this year’s beautiful Christmas lights again. The route the bus takes will be very similar to the previous year, and the ride takes about 40 to 50 minutes, starting at Plaza de Colón.

The buses will take you on a special journey through Madrid’s city centre, so you can enjoy its magical lights. Ticket sales start at November 25.

Let’s go ice skating!

Is there anything more idyllic and fun than ice skating in Madrid? Some places in the city have a nice, thick layer of ice, so you can spend hilarious moments with your friends or family there.

If you have fond memories of all the time you spent on the ice as a child, then these are the ice rinks to go to:

  • At the Only You Hotel Atocha, next to Retiro, you can ice skate in a New York style atmosphere from December 22nd to January 6th.
  • Dreams Palacio de Hielo, both a shopping centre and large ice rink, is waiting for you to join the fun and make your dreams come true. Opening times: every day from 10:00 to 22:00. Location: Calle Silvano, about 15 minutes from Paseo de la Castellana.

Visit the village of Santa Claus and his elves

The Christmas Village is waiting for you to come visit it at the Royal Post Office. Visitors will get a chance to meet Santa Claus and his elves, and you will also discover how they go about doing their jobs, in order for every gift to be delivered on time and at the right house.

Additional children’s activities include: writing Santa a letter, dancing and even making sweets.

What we have all been waiting for: Three Wise Men Parade 2020

As every year, children are extremely eager for the Three Wise Men to arrive in the city. The parade, which will take place from 18:30 to 21:00, starts its route at Paseo de la Castellana and ends at Plaza de Cibeles, in Madrid’s centre.

Are there any Christmas activities or events that we have missed?
