Madrid Fusion 2014, Urban Cuisine on the Spotlight

Written by damien

At the beginning of next year, the cultural agenda in the Spanish capital features Madrid Fusion, a “gastrofestival” full of tastings, courses and culinary events, a unique opportunity to firsthand learn about and experience the gastronomy of Madrid.

Held between January 24 and February 9, 2014, at the Palacio de Congresos del Campo of Nations, the XII edition of the International Summit of Gastronomy Madrid Fusion, will offer visitors and residents of the Spanish city a series of events for those who wish to taste and enjoy extraordinary cuisine mastered by some of the best chefs in the world.

The event, which is organized by “Madrid Destiny,” in collaboration with “Madrid Fusion,” is aiming to enhance the quality and variety of the gastronomy in Madrid, merging the sights and culture of the city with culinary art.

Food celebrations will be presented through 300 activities divided into five topics: “Sensory Experiences,” “Gastro-Culture”, “Gourmet Madrid”, “Gastro-Fashion” and “Gastro-Health.” These are five different approaches under the concept, in an effort to combine gastronomy with disciplines such as painting, cinema, photography, theater, literature and music.

This year, Madrid Fusion includes a new topic: Taste Spain, sponsored by Facyre, dedicated to traditional cuisine, presenting all the greats of Spanish cuisine.

Another event is the classic “Degustatapas,” where you can find restaurants with menus at €25 and €40 and the spectacular “Dinner with the Stars,” a chance to taste the creations of international chefs at some of the best restaurants in Madrid, at a fixed price of €75.

Finally, on your schedule you should also add, “Greedy Route”: a journey through some of the best bakeries in Madrid, which is also accompanied by the path of “Colombian coffee.”

It is the 12th Madrid Fusion which brings the latest creations in Spanish cuisine staged in the country’s capital.

At the 17 master workshops, the audience can interact with chefs: Joan Roca, Pedro Subijana, Pepe Rodríguez Rey, Jordi Cruz, Andoni Aduriz, Paco Torreblanca, Sacha Hormaechea, Quique Dacosta, Nandu Jubany, Pepe Solla, among others, who will reveal their secrets discussing culinary creativity.

Tickets are available online at: http://ivent.xeria.es/xcli/Mfusion_2014/preregistro_en.aspx

However, this is not completely a Spain’s issue, as over 100 famous chefs from around the world are expected to take part in a rather international food festival inspired by the city’s life, history and culture.

This year’s creations will focus on Madrid’s urban aspect. “Inspiration is in the Street” would trigger the imagination of the participants to come up with plates that could fit with what you can experience every day walking, working or living in Madrid, but with a touch of the extraordinary.

Large cities (Istanbul, Bangkok, Lima, Washington, Tokyo, New York, Paris, Buenos Aires, Mexico) and small cities (Bruges, Gerona, Agrigento) will inspire the great chefs.

Interestingly, this subject was also addressed at Gastronomika San Sebastian, http://www.sansebastiangastronomika.com/en/index.php

A large number of participations from Latin America countries may indicate that a blend of different tastes and aromas will finally characterize this year’s events.

Parallel to Madrid Fusion will take place Enofusión, an exhibition of exquisite wines bringing together more than 100 producers.
