Shiatsu in Madrid

Written by Paula

Shiatsu is a form of alternative medicine that has its roots in China, being used in the country as a part of their traditional medicine practice. In this form of physical therapy, the practitioner treats the body by using pressure, touch, and manipulation, with the objective of adjusting the body’s physical structure and also the energy flow. Shiatsu practitioners believe that this form of alternative medicine produces lasting results not only in the physical body but also on the person’s emotional and spiritual body. Each session of Shiatsu is meant to support and strengthen the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself.

As mentioned above, Shiatsu helps the body to heal and balance itself. It does so by boosting the patient’s immune system, energizing the lymphatic system, promoting better blood flow, stretching the ligaments and relaxing the body.

Shiatsu is used to treat a variety of conditions such as arthritis, depression, anxiety, sinus headaches, premenstrual syndrome, back problems, sports injuries, insomnia/sleep disorders, constipation, shoulder and neck pain, and fatigue.

Shiatsu is, in general, a safe form of treatment but there are certain conditions that require the patient to seek traditional medicine’s advice before booking a Shiatsu session. If you suffer from osteoporosis, if you are pregnant, if you have a hernia, tumor, fracture, open wound, bruises, inflamed skin or any type of contagious skin conditions or rashes, you may not be able to be treated wth Shiatsu. Other situations in which Shiatsu is contraindicated are when the patient has recently undergone surgery, radiation treatment or chemotherapy.
